Shorter delivery times for Apotea thanks to SGA’s system
– We can now sort packages ourselves at the warehouse and shorten delivery times. We have different types of package sorting: some staff pack packages onto pallets, while other sorting processes involve a robot that picks up the packages from the conveyor belt and packs them onto pallets. The fact that the postal service can come pick up shipments and deliver them directly to the customer instead of going through a sorting center saves an enormous amount of time and eliminates unnecessary transport.

Apotea is an online pharmacy that handles over 30,000 packages a day from its warehouse. With such a large volume of packages being sorted and shipped to customers across the country, it was essential to find a better solution for material handling and sorting. We took on the challenge of streamlining operations and shortening delivery times.

Customized solution with automatic scanning
For Apotea, we designed and built new, efficient conveyor systems with sorting capabilities, where packages are transported prior to further distribution to the customer. To eliminate yet another manual task for staff, we also installed and integrated an automatic label scanning system.
Results
Thanks to the solutions implemented, Apotea has achieved significant improvements in its operations. Automated sorting using robots makes the entire process faster and more efficient. In addition, the new sorting solution allows the postal service to seamlessly pick up deliveries directly from Apotea’s warehouse and then deliver them. This reduces unnecessary transport and saves both time and resources.

Apotea is an award-winning online pharmacy headquartered in Stockholm, with its logistics operations located in Morgongåva, about 40 kilometers west of Uppsala. Apotea has demonstrated rapid and steady growth every year since 2012, which has led to the continuous expansion of its warehouse space. Following continued strong growth, the framework for an impressive, climate-smart logistics center spanning 38,000 square meters was erected, and in the spring of 2018, Apotea moved into the new facility.
